Art Around the Park is back.  Six venues and scores of art works are all within walking distance, tonight, Sept. 13, in Morristown.

“The mission of Art Around the Park is pure and simple: Create a reputation for Morristown as an art destination,” explains Harry Simon, owner of the Simon Gallery.

Join the Arts Council of the Morris Area,the Simon Gallery and the Hyatt Morristown on Sept. 13, 2011, from 5-8 pm and experience the work of established and emerging artists at Art Around the Park, Morristown’s quarterly celebration of the visual arts.

Art Around the Park features contemporary exhibitions at downtown galleries and alternative art venues located in proximity to Morristown’s historic Green including the Simon Gallery (48 Bank Street), Gallery at 14 Maple (14 Maple Ave.), Atrium Gallery (10 Court Street, 2nd – 5th floors),  gallery space in Citibank (30 W. Park Place), Symphony Workplaces (4 Headquarters Plaza, North Tower, 3rd floor)  and at the Hyatt Morristown  (3 Speedwell Ave.).

art around the park sept 2011The exhibits at Citibank (30 W. Park Place, Morristown), Symphony Workplaces and at the Morristown Hyatt’s Electic Grill are also curated by Harry Simon.The Simon Gallery will be featuring the second solo show of digital photography by Laura McClanahan.

At the Arts Council of the Morris Area’s Gallery at 14 Maple, the public is invited to view the juried exhibit curated by Virginia Fabbri Butera, Ph.D., director of the Therese Maloney Gallery and Chair of the Art/Music departments at the College of St. Elizabeth. It’s entitled Remembrance of Things Past, featuring works by 50 New Jersey artists exploring the exhibit theme with works in media ranging from gum bichromate, ceramic, oil, acyrilic and fabric to steel and bronze.

Four floors of works by artists including Isabelle Pizzano, The Power of Nine artists (Anne Winston Brown, Sandy Rech, Dail Fried, Alice Harrison, Valery Mankoff, Ruther Bauer Neustadter, Nancy Egol Nikkai and Ellen Reinkraut), photographers Dawn Benko and Danielle Austen, mobile artist John Tetz and the artists of Arts Unbound will be exhibited at the Atrium Gallery.

A $25 prix fixe menu at the Eclectic Grill after the walk will offer participants a chance to socialize with others viewing the exhibits, to meet some of the artists and to enjoy a lovely three-course meal, family style, at this charming restaurant.

Modeled after Philadelphia’s First Friday art tours, prior Art Around the Park events have attracted a dedicated following.

“We learned that it was appreciated, and that it was viable. Enough people in the community, when they learn of it, will come out and take the walk,” Simon predicted.

The New Jersey State Council on the Arts has awarded the Arts Council of the Morris Area a “Citation of Excellence” and designated it as a “Major Service Organization” in recognition of its “solid history of service excellence, substantial activity and broad public service.”
