Irene washes out ‘September Serenade’ at Frelinghuysen Arboretum

Irene may be gone, but the memory lingers. And it’s not a pleasant one, either.

The September Serenade, a concert scheduled for Sept. 18 at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, has been canceled by the Morris County Park Commission and the Arts Council of the Morris Area “in response to the widespread devastation that people and facilities throughout the County and State have been experiencing in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene,” according to a statement from the Arts Council.

Ticket purchases will be refunded.

Here is the full statement:

FROM THE ARTS COUNCIL OF THE MORRIS AREA:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
________________________________________________________________________
September Serenade cancelled due to Irene’s aftermath

With great regret, the Morris County Park Commission and the Arts Council of the Morris Area announced the cancellation of their much-anticipated September Serenade which would have featured Brazilian music, Bluegrass, Classical, Caribbean music and Hot Jazz along with specialty wines and hors d’oeuvres in the gorgeous gardens of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum on Sunday, September 18th, from 2-5 pm. This difficult decision was reached in response to the widespread devastation that people and facilities throughout the County and State have been experiencing in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene.

Those who have already purchased tickets will receive a full refund from the Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum, sponsors of this program.

Our thoughts and good wishes for successful rebuilding/restoration efforts go out to all of those so seriously impacted by this storm.  May next September bring fair weather and a successful re-launching of September Serenade as an event to remember!
