It seems like the Class of ’11 was just tossing its caps into the air. Suddenly, the Class of ’12 has center stage.
Schools opened in the Morris School District on Wednesday morning, one day later than planned because of damage from Tropical Storm Irene.
No reports of any more pickerel swimming in boiler rooms. And no reports of any football being played on Morristown High School’s $786,000 turf field, either.
That synthetic field, now in its second year, was injured during the storm. The West Morris Mendham game on Sept. 17 has been moved to the opponents’ field as a result, said Mary Donohoe, a spokesperson for the district.
Repairs should be covered by insurance and a warranty, and they should be fairly quick, weather-permitting, Mary said. It appears that some seams were torn, and the ground underneath became uneven when the area flooded. The ground must be rolled to flatten it out, she said.
