“This is what Morristown needs every weekend!” said David Jorge, watching the Rusty Paul Band kick off the first Morristown Jazz and Blues Festival on Saturday.

One day David’s kids–stars in the band Amor**–are sure to be up on the big stage.

But for today, the entertainment is being provided by Les Paul’s son Rusty, the Duke Ellington Legacy Band, the Winard Harper Sextet, Baby Soda, and at 8 pm, Grover Kemble and the Jerry Vezza Quartet.

“How exciting is this?” said Mayor Tim Dougherty, who rounded up sponsors to make the event happen. Come out to the Morristown Green and catch the sound waves. They’re free. Bring a lawn chair or beach blanket.

And while Morristown might not have this kind of excitement every weekend, it certainly will next weekend.

Our Fourth Annual MorristownGreen.com Film & Music Festival runs from noon until 10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17.

And you can catch Amor on Sept. 18, performing at the Gran Fondo biking event in Morristown along with Universal Rebel and Swindle. Both days of performances are free and a great way to wind down the summer.
