Randolph man accused of killing his father in robbery

A Randolph man is being held on $1 million bail on charges that he fatally shot his father in the head while robbing him.

Brendon Matos, 25, was arrested on July 8 in connection with the death of his father, Nelson Matos, 56, of Randolph.

Randolph police charged Brendon Matos, 25, with slaying Nelson Matos, 56, who was found dead on the floor of his Randolph home in a pool of blood on Thursday night. Earlier in the evening, Nelson Matos’ car had been found abandoned in the brush at Greystone Psychiatric Hospital in Parsippany.

Brendon Matos was arrested Friday morning hiding in the woods at Greystone. He was barefoot and bruised from walking in the woods, Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi said at a press conference in Morristown.

The suspect also has been charged with possessing a handgun without a permit, and illegal possession of handgun because of a prior robbery conviction.

Bail was set by Superior Court Judge Thomas Manahan.

Brendon Matos lived at his father’s Clover Lane home, according to authorities. The address also is listed online as the location of Biosystems Scientific LLC, a distributor of shakers, autoclaves, environmental chambers and other biomedical products. Nelson Matos was in sales and marketing for the company, according to web listings.

  1. worked with nelson for years in Newark with the phone company. Had alot of good times, he was a good person with alot of ambition..sorry to hear about what happened and by his own son…
