We were lucky enough to catch the U.S. Army Field Band at the Community Theatre in 2009. It was a rousing show, and it’s exciting to hear that these first-rate military players are returning to the area with a free July 5 concert at Ginty Field in Morris Township.

Show time is 7 pm. Below is the release from Bill Foelsch of the township parks and recreation department. There’s not much more we can add besides… support our musical troops!

FROM THE TOWNSHIP DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION:

MORRIS TOWNSHIP TO HOST UNITED STATES ARMY FIELD BAND ON JULY 5TH

The Morris Township Department of Parks and Recreation is extremely pleased to announce that the internationally acclaimed United States Army Field Band of Washington, DC. will continue its long history of presenting free public performances when it appears at Ginty Field on Tuesday, July 5th at 7:00 pm. THIS IS A MUST SEE SUMMER EVENT!

As the premier touring musical representative for the United States Army, the Field Band travels thousands of miles each year throughout the nation and abroad, keeping the will of the American people behind the members of the armed forces and supporting diplomatic efforts around the world. Since its formation in 1946, the Field Band has appeared in all 50 states and in more than 30 countries on four continents.

Along with the soldiers’ chorus, which was founded in 1957, this 65-member Concert Band presents a powerful and diverse program of marches, overtures, popular music, patriotic selections, and instrumental and vocal solos. A music critic for the Boston Globe called a Field Band performance “a cause to stand up and cheer”.

The Field Band’s members, selected by highly competitive audition, represent some of the finest musical talent in America. More than five decades as the military’s most traveled musicians have earned them the title, “The Musical Ambassadors of the Army.”

The Field Band last appeared in the Morristown area in 2009 when they packed the Community Theater (now the Mayo Center for the Arts) with a free performance. Morris Township is proud to present this outstanding summer music opportunity to the Morris County and northern New Jersey.
