Good news is coming to Morristown High School. No, really. Director Joe Wohlgemuth leads the Theatre Department in the classic, 1920s musical, “Good News!”, playing Friday, March 25, and Saturday, March 26 at 7 pm, and Sunday, March 27, at 3 pm.

It’s a very exciting time for students at Tait College, class of 1928. The Conference Championship football game is fast approaching, and Tait is ready for victory. Daniel Dones and Gloria Bangiola lead off the cast as football star Tom Marlowe and bookworm Connie Lane, thrown together by Tom’s inability to pass his astronomy test, which is necessary for him in order to play in the game.

good newsTom’s girlfriend Pat (Rachel Carretta) is one of many roadblocks that the couple faces. Everything is riding on the outcome of the big game, including the other two romances in the show. Professor Charlotte Kenyon (Noelia Mann) and Coach Bill Johnson (Darren Rabinowitz), Connie and Tom’s respective mentors, make an attempt to rekindle their romance from their days at Tait College.

Dane Glynn plays Bobby Randall, a prissy football player who thinks he’s the cat’s pajamas, and falls for Babe (Carolina Alvarez), a rebellious flapper with a heart of gold.

Other notable characters include Miles Rodgers as Beef Saunders, Babe’s jealous ex; and Eric Sturm as Pooch, the superstitious athletic trainer.

While many may not have heard of this musical, the songs are iconic. Classics like “Button Up Your Overcoat,” “The Best Things in Life are Free,” “You’re the Cream in My Coffee,” “Keep Your Sunny Side Up,” “Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries,” and many others leave the audience tapping their toes and smiling.

Regardless of if you are already of the fan of the music, you will be by the end of the show. Musical director and pit band conductor Skip Yingling helped the cast keep in tune both vocally and instrumentally, and choreographer April O’Neill created dynamic dances.

All in all, the cast, crew, tech, and pit band have created a spectacular show that is truly Good News for everyone.
