They’re lining up early in Morristown for the big parade

The Thompsons of Mt. Olive may win the sweepstakes as the first spectators to stake out a spot along the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Route in Morristown.

Karen, who works for Godby Realtors on DeHart Street, found a prime location on South Street near DeHart at 9 a.m., along with her daughter Erin and their golden retriever, Simba.

Why so early for the noon parade?

“I thought it started at 10!” Karen said.

A shamrock’s throw away, outside the Woman’s Club of Morristown, 12-year-old Herb (his mom didn’t want him divulging his last name) of Hackettstown made the first purchase from the concessions table. A hot chocolate, for the record. Proceeds go to the club’s high school scholarship fund.

Herb said he likes coming to the parade every year because “it’s energetic. A lot of good people are here!”

The second purchase was made by a foreigner, Mr. Dan O’Pendick of Maryland, who looked well pleased with his $3 shamrock necklace.

  1. At the St Pats Parade in Morristown, we’re all irish for the day. Does that make some of us illegal?
