For the third time this winter, the Morristown Parking Authority is opening its garages for free to town residents to allow snow plows to clean streets more easily.

The garages — DeHart Street, Ann Street, Cattano Avenue and the Vail Mansion–will allow the free parking from 1 pm today, Jan. 26,  until 8 am Friday, Jan. 28.

When residents leave, “just tell the attendant you were there because of the snow emergency,” said Pat Geary of the MPA.

Proof of residency may be required. Morristown police add that parking is on a first-come, first-served basis. They note it’s smart to voluntarily remove cars from street parking now–in case a snow emergency is declared later that makes it mandatory.

The National Weather Service now has issued a Winter Storm Warning, upgraded from a Winter Storm Watch. Between four and eight inches of snow are predicted for Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.
