Mark your calendar: Morristown’s Atrium Gallery unveils ‘Memories of Russell’ on Jan. 28

Art in the Atrium Inc. has been showcasing the work of top African-American artists since 1992. This year’s exhibition, Memories of Russell, is dedicated to the late Russell Aldo Murray, who helped make this annual series a reality.

'Memories of Russell' is a new exhibition at the Atrium Gallery in Morristown. The opening reception is Jan. 28.

More than 30 African-American artists will be featured, and you can meet many of them on Jan. 28 from 6 pm to 9 pm at the Morris County Administration & Records Building in Morristown. There will be music, refreshments and a talk by Dennis L. Forbes, author of Studios and Workspaces of Black American Artists.

Even the parking is free. Mark your calendar!

The Atrium Gallery also will be included in Morristown’s second Art Around the Park gallery tour, on Feb. 1.

The Arts Council of the Morris Area is proud to announce the opening reception on January 28, 2011, from 6-9pm,  for Art in the Atrium’s new exhibit, Memories of Russell, which will be on display on floors 2-5 of the Morris County Administration & Records Building, 10 Court Street, Morristown until March 11, 2011.

Honoring Russell Aldo Murray, one of the founders of Art in the Atrium, this is the 19th annual show and sale of works by more than 30 local and nationally known African-American artists.  The public is invited to meet the artists at the free opening reception which will feature music, refreshments by Martin Little Catering and a talk by Dennis L. Forbes, noted author of Studios and Workspaces of Black American Artists. During the reception, there is also free parking in the garage below the building (access on Schuyler Place).

The exhibit features works by Akintola Hanif, Alonzo Adams, Anthony Boone, Anyta Thomas, Aristan Jacks, Barbara Bullock, Bisa Butler, Bryan Collier, Calvin Coleman, Felix Osiemi, Glenda Jones, Hicoup, Ife East, India Cruse-Griffin, Isaam Shariyf Houston, Jacqueline Collier, James Edmonds, Janet Taylor Pickett, Janice Jamison, Joachim McMillan, Jose Cruz, Kali McMillan, Keidra Haskins, Kevin Cole, Kimmy, Lavette Ballard, Leroy Campbell, Lynn Cabell McGee, Lynn Presley, Najee, Norman Lewis, Richard Watson, Rosaline Nzinga Nichol, Terry Boddie, Viki Craig, Wanetta Phillips, and Warren Murray.

The Gallery is free and open for viewing on Mondays-Fridays from 8am-5pm and will also be participating in the Art Around the Park self guided gallery walk on February 1, 2011 from 6-8pm. (During Art Around the Park, free parking will also be provided in the garage below the building).

The Arts Council of the Morris Area is a private not-for-profit organization founded in 1973 and long dedicated to enriching the community through the arts.  It fulfills its mission to bring the arts to the center of community life through arts education, arts programming, arts advocacy and support for artists and arts organizations

The New Jersey State Council on the Arts has awarded the Arts Council of the Morris Area a “Citation of Excellence” and designated it as a “Major Service Organization” in recognition of its “solid history of service excellence, substantial activity and broad public service.”
