Santa interview in Morristown: Airport security, nutty elves and a Christmas wish

0

We caught up with Santa moments after his reindeer landed atop Century 21 on Friday, and interviewed him while he waited for the Morristown Fire Department to lower him from the roof to meet his fans.

The Man in Red revealed some dietary secrets about his elves, shared his thoughts about the youth of Morristown, weighed in on airport security and divulged what he wants for Christmas.

THE 2010 SANTA INTERVIEW:

MorristownGreen.com: How was your flight?

SANTA: It was a little bit bumpy, but not too bad.

MG: How was the airport security?

SANTA: It’s still a bit crazy, but you’ve got to live with it. I don’t have to worry about that because I’m flying around in a sled with reindeer. I don’t have to worry about airport security.

MG: Where did you park the reindeer?

SANTA: Oh, I tell you, they’re right behind the back of the building over here.

MG: If there’s one guy who’s not afraid of heights, I guess it must be you…

SANTA: Hey, I can’t be afraid of heights! Not at all.

MG: How does it feel to be back in Morristown?

SANTA: It feels great to be back here. It really does. It’s a great town. Love it. Absolutely love it. Great people, great community, everything is really neat down there.

MG: How was it back at the North Pole?

SANTA: It was cold, very cold back at the North Pole. Snow, rain, sleet, ice. Very cold.

MG: How are the elves holding up?

SANTA: Well, quite frankly, they’re a little crazy because they’re trying to get everything ready. They’re running around like lunatics at the North Pole. It’s nuts, it’s really nuts. I got all that I can do to supervise them. In fact, most of the time, I don’t do it at all.

MG: How do you keep them in line?

SANTA: Keep their food away!

MG: What do they eat, anyway?

SANTA: They eat chocolate chip cookies, gingerbread, and milk.

MG: And what about those reindeer? What do you feed them?

SANTA: I give them all kinds of things. Especially, magical reindeer food.

MG: What are the kids like here in Morristown?

SANTA: They’re wonderful, absolutely wonderful. They’re happy, they’re jovial, they’re just great kids.

MG: You’re going to be on the Green for quite awhile, right?

SANTA: I’ll be here every weekend. Friday night, Saturday from noon until seven, Sunday from noon until seven, and wrapping up on the 21st of December from five until eight.

MG: What do you want for Christmas?

SANTA: Peace, happiness, and love, if that could happen. That’s quite a request.

MG: If anyone can pull it off, it’s you, right?

SANTA: Yeah, I’m going to try. There’s some problems around the world. But I think for the most part, most people want the same thing.

MG: So have you got any special messages for all the kids here in Morristown?

SANTA: Come down and visit with me, and sit on my lap and tell me what you want for Christmas!

MG: Thanks, Santa.

SANTA: Thank you. Merry Christmas!

The Christmas Festival on the Morristown Green, sponsored by the Morristown Partnership, runs every weekend until Christmas. Kids can visit Santa on the Green through Dec. 21. A complete list of festival events is here.
