Morristown’s first holiday windows decorating contest doesn’t start until Friday. But nobody at Elliott’s Flower Shoppe wanted to wait that long.
“This is the best time of year for the store,” said Kristen Galdieri, who spent about four hours with colleague Megan Rabinowitz creating a “Winter Wonderland” in the store window earlier this week.
Some 30 establishments have registered to compete in the Walking Tour of Windows competition. Shoppers can vote for their favorite window at participating stores.
A panel of judges also will weigh in, with the winning merchant being announced before the Dec. 19 Nutcracker performance at the Community Theatre.
Shoppers who cast ballots will be entered for the chance to win a $100 gift certificate from the Morristown Partnership.
The Morris Street floral shop, a fixture in Morristown since at least 1895, was remodeled recently. Kristen said she wanted the holiday window decorations to reflect the changes.
“We were looking for something more modern and whimsical,” she said.
Oh yes, and the elves have been busy dressing up the Community Theatre, where the walking tour idea was hatched…
