Saturday’s 21-13 season finale win over High Point paid off for Morristown High.

The Colonials will host Plainfield in the first round of the North II Group III football sectionals this weekend. It will be the first meeting of the schools this season.

Prior to last Saturday’s games, the Cardinals (5-4) were in position to host a playoff game. But a 21-18 loss to Linden, in addition to a Morristown win and Colonia’s loss to Wall Township, spoiled their chances.

The Colonials (5-4) played their last home playoff game in 2007, when they lost to West Side, 12-7, in the sectional semi-finals.

Their record that season was 9-2 and they were favored to make the sectional finals at Giants Stadium.

Kickoff time for this weekend’s playoff game will be announced later this week. The complete playoff brackets for the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association are still being set up.  Stayed tuned here this week for more information on Saturday’s matchup between the Colonials and Cardinals .
