Yes, someone tripped up with the official results. Unofficially, everyone appears to have had a great time Sunday at the second annual Colonial Challenge 5K in Morris Township, according to these sparkling photos by Claire Mackin.

The big winners are schoolchildren and teachers in the Morris School District, which benefits from race proceeds through grants awarded by the Morris Educational Foundation.

Phil Sibona, race chairman, apologized via email to the 585 participants for vendor errors that he said hampered registrations and made it impossible to certify official results.

A triathlete himself, Phil said he understood how runners take their times seriously, and he vowed that these problems would not be repeated next year.

He said the overwhelming response from runners has been positive. A deejay this year added a lot of energy, he said, and the weather was picture-perfect. Phil expects proceeds will exceed the $9,000 raised last year.

“Each dollar raised from today’s festivities goes right back to the students of the Morris School District through grants that greatly enhance the educational experience of our children.  Thank you!”  he said in his message to runners.
