Team MATAM!

The Morristown Moms & Tots & More group has kicked off another family-fun event: their very own kickball team. The fall schedule is underway and games are played Monday nights in Morris Plains. Cheering fans and prospective players are welcome!

For several years, Jen Carcich, the group’s founder, toyed with the idea of forming an adult kickball league with MATAM members. When mom Amanda Power came to Jen with the same idea, they searched out a local league and found one right in Morris Plains. They joined up with Jersey Club Sports this past spring and, despite the fact that they did not win one game that first season, they had such a great time they signed up again this fall.

Jersey Club Sports is a unique and interesting organization, providing adult co-ed sports leagues in our area, along with happy hours, parties, and other social events. Their motto is HAVE FUN, PLAY SPORTS, BE SOCIAL! Their goal (“gooooooal!!!”) is to offer active adults a chance play the sports they love and meet great people while having fun, fun, fun. Jersey Club Sports offers year-round sports leagues, and both teams and individuals of all levels are welcome to play. Jen was thrilled to organize the MATAM team through the league and says that it “proves that kickball is not just for kids!”

MATAM’s games are held in the evenings at the beautiful new Central Park of Morris County (the former Greystone Hospital property). Jen describes the field as “a work of art” with artificial turf surface, lighting, and wheelchair accessibility.

To add to the fun, The Famished Frog holds drink specials after each game for team members and even has free beer and nachos on nights when the games are rained out. MATAM members relish the chance to have an evening out that combines fitness and socializing. Several couples play on the team and use kickball nights as their weekly date nights. Other members bring their kids and sitters along to the early games. Either way, a great time is had by all. Jen still laughs about the player from an opposing team who once eyed Team MATAM curiously and finally asked, “What, do you need kids to be on your team or something?” To which she responded, “Well, yes actually, you do!”

MATAM team dads are all smiles after a good game
