From bikes to bells, from poets to rappers, from gridders to farmers, there is plenty to do around Morristown this weekend.

The fun starts tonight at 6 with the monthly Critical Mass bike ride from town hall, and continues with the third annual Art of the Bicycle Show at Marty’s Reliable Cycle on Speedwell Avenue.  What kind of statement can you make with a bike pump?  Check out this show to find out.

On Saturday from noon to 4 pm,  Morristown Memorial Hospital is holding a very special reunion for “graduates” of its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. These are people who received treatment as infants; now they get to thank the medical staff who gave them a fresh start. The festivities are at Stonybrook Day Camp, 42 Park Avenue, in Randolph.

footballAt 1 pm on Saturday, the Morristown High School Colonials (1-1) take on the Vikings of Parsippany Hills High School (0-2) in a 1 pm varsity football game in Morristown.

On Saturday night, MHS grad Brandyn Heppard, a.k.a. Adeo, leads the hip hop band Universal Rebel at the Dublin Pub for what promises to be a lively show.

Sunday’s busy calendar includes the Morristown Farmers Market at 8:30 am, behind the post office off Dumont Place.

At 3 pm, it’s time for Poets in the Garden, at the Macculloch Hall Historical Museum. Hear readings by Gail Holst-Warhaft and John McDermott.

Gail is a Cornell University professor known for her translations of Greek poets; her first poetry collection, Penelope’s Confessions, was published in 2007.  John, author of the poetry collection The Long Way Home (2005), has been featured at the Dodge Poetry Festival and has mentored young poets at numerous workshops and festivals. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. Arrive early and tour the museum, which includes the new exhibit Hearth and Home, about everyday life at Macculloch Hall, circa 1810.

At 4 pm, carillonneur Lisa Lonie plays the magnificent bells of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church at South Street and Miller Road. Sit on the church lawn and enjoy the sound of 17 tons worth of iron! When dedicated in 1924, this 49-bell carillon was the largest in the United States; today there are only 119 carillons in the country. Refreshments will be available and voluntary donations will support St. Peter’s music program.

And from 4 pm until dusk, savor Alfresco in the Garden, a fundraiser at the Urban Farm at Lafayette, on 31 Hazel Street. Food will be served from a restored 1949 REO Speedwagon pizza truck, and there will be live blues music from the Catbirds, croquet, a silent auction and desserts by The Artist Baker. Tickets are $75 (advance sales only) and benefit the nonprofit farm, which was started this year to promote sustainability. NOTE: Heavy rain cancels.

We’re only scratching the surface here, of course. For a complete list of everything going on this weekend, see  our great calendar. And if you have an event coming up, make sure to enter it there!
