All you need is a pumpkin and a knife!

Hey… wasn’t that a lottery ad?

No, no, it’s an invitation to Arts Everywhere, a new program from the Arts Council of the Morris Area.

“We want to bring arts downtown to nontraditional spaces,” explained Kadie Dempsey, director of arts and communities for the council.

First up: A “Pumpkin Illumination Event.”

It’s scheduled for nightfall on Oct. 30 — that’s Mischief Night, kids–outside the Vail Mansion on South Street in Morristown.

The public is invited to bring Jack-O-Lanterns, which will be illuminated for all to enjoy.  The Morris County Tourism Bureau has scheduled a graveyard tour that afternoon, and it will conclude at the pumpkin event.

Other possible events include fire hydrant painting, sidewalk “chalk-ins,” spontaneous dances, drumming and hula hooping.  Expressive, spontaneous and free are the common themes, according to Kadie.

“These are all things I would like to see happening in Morristown,” said Kadie, an award-winning photographer who also has a background in interior design.

“I believe the time is definitely here, because the construction is done and tenants are moving in” to new condos and apartments across town.

She said now is the time to “start creating the community that these people have decided to move into. People are looking forward to what’s next. What’s next is Arts Everywhere.”

Got an idea for some guerilla art?  Remember: Expressive, spontaneous, free.
