Hot dogs and hamburgers and pulled-pork galore were on Sunday’s menu at the new Central Park Morris County, the 5.8-acre dog park recently opened by the Morris County Park Commission on the grounds of Greystone Park in Morris Plains.

But most importantly, there were dogs of all shapes and sizes, long and short coats, long and short legs, who were running and playing and burning off their pent-up energy on a late summer afternoon on the rolling hills and valleys of the space, which is enclosed to allow dogs to frolic off leash with their owners on hand.

The two-hour event was billed as “Dinner with Dogs,” a fundraiser to pay for such future amenities at the park as benches and poop-bag dispensers, to aid in easy clean up after the pets.

The meal was catered by Hot-Rods BBQ of Wharton and allowed regulars from Morris County’s other dog park inside the grounds of Lewis Morris County Park to become familiar with the new venue, which technically is in Parsippany but abuts Morris Plains and Morris Township. The park sits at the corner of Old Dover Road and Collins Road.

Denise Lanza, deputy assistant director of the Park Commission, was on hand to welcome visitors to this second “Dinner with Dogs” event. Some 55 area residents and an equal number of dogs were on hand to enjoy the open space and the treats for both man and beast.
