From black-and-white to color to digital, the world of photography is ever changing. But in Morristown, at least, there has been one constant for three generations: Sandrian Camera.
Some lucky director at Friday’s Third Annual MorristownGreen.com Film Festival will win a beautiful tripod, courtesy of the good folks at Sandrian. We are delighted to welcome their family into ours this year.
The Sandrians have been welcoming shutterbugs into their South Street store since the late 1920s. Sarah Sandrian said her grandfather emigrated from Turkey and set up shop about a block from today’s location.
What accounts for Sandrian Camera’s resiliency?
“The people. The service,” says longtime customer Ray Cavanaugh, a watercolor artist from Randolph. Scanning, prints, Christmas cards, note cards… “Any needs I’ve had, they’ve always found ways to do things.”
“We really care about our customers,” says Sarah, who is about to enter her senior year at the University of Pittsburgh.
“Prices are competitive,” adds Barbara Fowler, a longtime member of the Sandrian team. “Sometimes people don’t realize that.”
Myles Sandrian, 25, says the store’s website also offers some real bargains. Popular services include videotape and film transfers to digital, prints of digital photos and backups of digital photo collections, he says.
His secrets for success?
“Adapting to the changes in the technology and being willing to change,” Myles says. “That’s the hardest part.”
