Every year, the movies get better.  And our good friends at Rios’ Engraving rise to the challenge and outdo themselves with a trophy that one lucky filmmaker will covet forever.

And so it will be again, next Friday night, at the Third Annual MorristownGreen.com Film Festival.

Chinie and Rolando Rios have been with us from the beginning, and we are thrilled and honored that they are donating the magnificent trophy shown here for next week’s “Best Picture.”

For 44 years, Rios’ Engraving has been the gold standard for plaques and trophies in Greater Morristown.

If you’ve ever had a championship softball season, led your bowling league, starred in a school play or scored a big goal, chances are your mantel is decorated with a treasured reminder from the Rios’ shop on Maple Avenue.

Chinie said her cinematic tastes run from early James Bond to classics like “Casablanca” and “Gone With the Wind.”

We can’t promise anything quite that epic–we limited festival entries to roughly five minutes in length–but we do have a black-and-white movie. And for all you 007 fans, there is even a British car chase.

Your votes will decide who hoists this huge, glimmering prize.

And the booty doesn’t stop there: Filmmakers also will be vying for season passes to the always-engaging New York Film Critics series in Morristown, tickets to stellar shows at the Community Theatre, and great gear from Sandrian Camera.

The free festivities start at 6:30 p.m. on the lawn of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morristown (indoors if it rains) and will include a concert by the sensational kids band Boys Nyte (formerly known as Boys Night Out). At dusk, we will screen home-grown dramas, comedies and music videos.

This year’s crop is fast-paced, with a mix of quirky, provocative, artsy and funny creations. We asked filmmakers to keep them short, keep them clean, and use music by area artists. And they did, by George!

After the closing credits, everyone will vote for his or her favorite movie.

It’s family-friendly. So find a family, grab a friend, borrow lawn chairs or beach blankets, and join us next Friday for a fun-filled evening!
