Next month, Morristown’s council will re-evaluate a Speedwell Avenue redevelopment plan that has been stalled since its approval in November 2008.

The prior town administration granted several extensions for an amended plan last year, and Mayor Tim Dougherty’s administration has just agreed to a six-month extension, town attorney Vij Pawar told the council tonight.

The lawyer said that the redeveloper and town planner will appear at the next town redevelopment meeting, on Sept. 16, to discuss what changes are needed to get the project rolling.

Morristown’s council serves as the town redevelopment authority.

A three-stage plan had called for Trammell Crow Residential, the redeveloper, to build 650 housing units and 35,000 square feet of office space, along with major road work on parts of Speedwell, Early and Spring streets and Clinton Place.

Three quarters of the housing was to be rentals; the rest would be condos. Some 130 units were to be designated as affordable housing.
