Zebu Forno, which closed late last year after only a few months of operation, has reopened on South Street in Morristown with a new owner who is new to the restaurant business.
Bill Oliver, 53, of Chatham became a fan of the original Zebu Forno restaurant in Red Bank when he was developing commercial real estate projects there.
“I loved their pizza,” he said.
He grew friendly with Andrew Gennusa, president of Zebu Forno Franchise LLC. When the real estate business took a downturn, and a Morristown franchise became available, Bill decided to shift careers.
“I had a little time. He had a little store,” Bill said with a grin. “I jumped in with both feet.”
The restaurant’s interior looks as it did before, with murals depicting George Washington and other historical figures. Some furniture is new, with more tables up front, and more electrical outlets for customers who want to take advantage of free WiFi. A few menu items are gone (no more veggie panini) and prices are a bit lower.
Bill said the first few days of Zebu’s “soft launch” have been encouraging.
“It’s a great location,” he said. “Morristown’s a great place to be.”
Went there to see some awesome live (free) music. The atmosphere was great. Seemed like everyone had a smile on their face that entered. Was very family friendly too. There was even a 10 month old baby in the audience bouncing to the music. Felt like I was sitting in my living room enjoying the band. The owner was very friendly and attentive. Great to have a place in Morristown that supports N.J. artists and live music.
