A Morris Township resident with a home assessed at the town average of $380,000 would see his or her property taxes rise by $142 under the amended $33.7 million municipal budget introduced by the township committee last night, reports The Daily Record.
Sixteen workers are scheduled for layoffs, and firefighters will be furloughed for six days, according to the newspaper. The story explains:
The committee had to close a $3.5 million budget gap caused by the loss of $1 million in state aid, a drop of $2 million in the fund balance account and the drop of $500,000 in various fees the township collects.
