The Morris Township committee tonight will consider a revised $33.4 million budget that would boost the average homeowner’s taxes by another $9, while sparing one of three firefighters targeted for layoffs, reports The Daily Record.
Mayor Scott Rosenbush tells the paper:
The township will increase the 2010 property tax levy by 4 percent, the state’s maximum. The change would add $9 more than originally proposed to the property tax bill of the owner of a home assessed at the township average of $380,000. The previous tax hike was $133; the new figure is $142, Rosenbush said.
Paid members of the fire department agreed to take 12 furlough days and reduce overtime, according to the report. Yard waste collection also got a reprieve. But the township plans to stop paying for the Colonial Coach bus service.
