Waiting to get the rental van... (can we fit all that luggage?)
Deep and Wide is that Mississippi!
Walkin' in the French Quarter
Lordy, it's hot!
We give thanks to the family of Susie Thomas, who lent us their Baton Rouge home!
Is this the midnight train to Georgia? It sure is loooooonnnnnnggg!

From Diana

We are now in Baton Rouge, and are so very grateful to Susie Thomas (our former Seminarian), and her husband Brit, and kids Katherine and Olivia, for the use of their beautiful home.  Today we head south to Terrebonne, but first, a stop at The Oak Alley Plantation.  Yesterday, the youth went to the French Quarter.  And they can tell you all about what they did below!

From Melissa,

What a joy to be with these kids. They are so funny and have great negotiating skills with one another! We are working out the details of group living and I have learned that “Rock, Paper, Scissor” does not always work in my favor. I may have to invoke Apostolic Authority!

They are feeling the heat and are starting to realize that working in this heat will be a challenge tomorrow. I know they will do beautifully!

Many thanks for allowing us to give these kids this wonderful experience. A loving shout out to Katherine and Fran!

Blessings

From Jake,

The first thing that hit me as I climbed out of our rented, overflowing mini-van was the Louisiana heat. When Melissa and Dianna told us it would be hot, we all rolled our eyes and packed a hat for good measure. In my mind, I thought of a 90 degree day and thought “I can bear it.” I was dead wrong. You don’t need a rock to fry an egg out here!

As we walked down the streets of the city of jazz, I was struck by how much life the city of New Orleans held. Growing up 30 miles outside of New York, I thought I had seen it all. Once again, wrong! We passed several musicas playing for all the world to hear, a tap-dancer, and even one of those live-statue people. In the two hours we were there, I saw more spirit then a few days spent anywhere else. We’re having so much fun!

From Nataliya,

As we walked around the French Quarter of New Orleans, I was amazed by how many different activities were going on. There were mimes, psychic readings, statue people, and a lot of music playing. Besides the weather being so much warmer, life seems so much more different here than in New Jersey.

Colin:

Good food…..Good time….Goodbye

….and a clown

Sophie:

Hello readers! First of all it is HOT! Melissa and Diana were not lying.Yesterday we took a long but fun car ride after landing here in New Orleans. Our first stop was the French Quarter where we were first hit by the heat, smells and people of the town. Nothing like home in Morristown. I did enjoy a yummy Beignet or french donut with powdered sugar!! Now we are about to leave Susie’s house which we deeply appreciated! We are showered and packed and off for a hour and a half car ride to Terrebone.Which I don’t mind since I bribed Colin with Koolaide and gushers for the comfy seat!;) Check in with you later!

Let the work begin!
