Free ‘Music Without Borders’ summer concerts kick off today at noon on the Morristown Green

West African music comes to the Morristown Green at lunchtime today with the Fula Flute Trio, featuring African xylophone, kora and tambin (African flute).  It’s the kickoff to a four-concert series sponsored by the Mayo Center for the Performing Arts and the Arts Council of the Morris Area.

FROM THE MAYO CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS:

The Mayo Center for the Performing Arts and the Arts Council of the Morris Area present MUSIC WITHOUT BORDERS, a series of four free world music outdoor summer concerts on Tuesdays in June and July.

The concert series will feature music and artists representing the rich cultural diversity of the area.

Two one-hour lunchtime concerts will be held at the Morristown Green on June 15 and June 29 beginning at 12:15 pm; the final two concerts will be held on The Community Theatre Plaza, 100 South Street, at 6 pm on July 13 and July 27. Pack a snack, bring the dog, and enjoy some wonderful music. Drawing for tickets for Community Theatre events will be held!

June 15 at 12:15 pm on the Morristown Green
Fula Flute Trio- West African music with a trio of balafon (African xylophone, kora and tambin (African flute). (Rain site is the United Methodist Church on the Green)

June 29 at 12:15 pm on the Morristown Green:
Conroy Warren Duo — Featuring music of the Caribbean with guitar and steel pan, from 30-year Antigua native Conroy Warren. (Rain site is the United Methodist Church on the Green)

July 13 at 6 pm on The Community Theatre Plaza:
Los Ciegos Del Barrio- This multi genre Latin music group plays Merengue, Bachata, Salsa, Cumbia, Reggaeton, and rock music in both English and Spanish. “Los Ciegos Del Barrio” literally translates to “The Blind Boys from the Hood” – most of the band members are legally blind. (Rain site – inside the Theatre)

July 27 at 6 pm on The Community Theatre Plaza:
The East Winds Ensemble / Taikoza – Japanese music with taiko drums and fue flutes. (rain site: inside the Theatre)
