The popular local moms group known as the Morristown Moms & Tots has revised its name to reflect its growing membership and energetic slate of activities and services. The newly christened “Morristown Moms & Tots & More” (MATAM, as we fondly refer to it) is a grassroots community group that welcomes all families and their child care providers to join.
Along with the new name, the group has also moved to an interactive website, www.bigtent.com, that features announcements, event listings, discussion forums, reviews and recommendations, and our own classified ads.
Started by local mom Jen Carcich in 2005, the group has more than 125 current members and provides a real sense of community for those involved. Regular playdates, stroller fit classes, Moms Night Out, Dads Night Out, field trips, book club, home-delivered meals for families welcoming newborns, and topical discussion groups are among the ongoing events members organize and enjoy year round.
One of the most popular events, the weekly Dinner Playdate, just kicked off with the warm weather and has been an immediate success. Held every Thursday (weather permitting) at a local park, dinners are hosted by rotating volunteer families and attendees chip in with drinks, sides, and desserts. The kids hit the playground, the parents get out of the kitchen, and everyone has a great time.
Newcomers to the area are encouraged to join, as well as families whose kids may be well past the “tots” stage. No need to worry about “aging out” of the group, as Jen always says, because the mission we share is to make this a true local family support group, to support each other and our community.
