They take show-and-tell very seriously at Morristown’s Thomas Jefferson School. Fifth-graders in Jeff Brown’s Gifted and Talented class have made a documentary about sustainability. It premieres Saturday at “Festival Earth” on the Morristown Green, at 1 p.m.

Our video today is about the “making of” this documentary, which is a remarkable project on several levels.

The students researched and wrote their own script, they interviewed a slew of town officials, and they even helped raise money for the $4,000 production. They also received backing from the Morris Educational Foundation, which raises funds through its annual “Morristown’s Got Talent” show.

Teacher Jeff Brown always cooks up exciting student projects for Earth Day; he’s going to have a hard time topping this one next year!

Festival Earth, meanwhile, culminates a month-long series of events celebrating the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, organized by Sustainable Morristown, one of our sponsors. We have hosted lectures on climate change and lunar exploration, and will be on hand at 5:30 tonight for “Green Drinks” at the Hyatt Morristown. (Sorry, TJ kids–that one’s only open to your parents!)

And of course, we wouldn’t miss Saturday’s world premiere. Festival Earth runs all day, and also will feature many terrific local musicians and vendors and organizations with environmental themes. We’ll post more on that shortly.
