Videos: They will rock your world on Earth Day, Sunday, April 22 in Morristown
No amount of rain can dampen this lineup! Here, in order of appearance, are the performers scheduled to play on Sunday, April 22, at the MorristownGreen.com Music & Arts Showcase.
We’re throwing this party atop the DeHart Street Parking Garage (down one level if it rains) with our friends from Sustainable Morristown and WDHA Radio. The fun starts at noon, it’s FREE, and it’s part of Earth Day Experience 2012–which includes a giant garage sale and expos on green living and healthy eats.
Note: Start times are approximate.
NOON: Hanna Neil‘s performance at Morristown’s Got Talent! in February would have been impressive even if she weren’t a 6th-grader. She sang Adele’s One and Only with poise and style before nearly 1,300 people. The best advice she received? “Make the song about you, not Adele herself,” Hanna said.

12: 15 pm: Lauren Smith, most likely is one of the rising stars at the Original Music School in Morristown, where young singer-songwriters hone their skills. She reminds us a little bit of Taylor Swift as a kid. Wait– Taylor Swift is a kid. Who knows? Maybe someday we’ll be saying Taylor reminds us of Lauren.
1 PM: Morristown High School alum Ben Rhodes has played in a few bands in recent years, and we have found something to like at each stop. First, it was Charlie and the Vanilla Faces–at our first parking deck extravaganza. Next, Electric Blue Sunrise at Festival Earth. Then, Nick Dickey for tornado relief. At December’s First Night Battle of the Bands, Ben fronted a group called Untitled. And that’s the combo we’ll hear on Earth Day: Ben on guitar with his Montclair State University pals Ethan Fria (guitar), Jordan Nanglona (bass) and Mike Deering (drums).

1:45 pm: Hub Hollow has built a Morristown following thanks to garden gigs at the Macculloch Hall Historical Museum and jam sessions at the Dark Horse Lounge. It doesn’t hurt that most of them are Morristown-Beard grads, either. The band consists of twins Jill (vocals) and John Turpin (guitar), Rick Chance (bass), Jason Frigerio (mandolin) and Tim Ryan (dobro). Collectively, their musical journey began with the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and the Grateful Dead, detoured through Dylan, and finally arrived at bluegrass. Behold the alchemy!

What's more appropriate on Earth Day than bluegrass? Hub Hollow brings its old-timey goodness to the MG Music & Arts Showcase on April 22.
2:30 pm: You don’t usually think of eighth-graders as perfectionists. But Art of Play studies pop music and strives to make every performance unique and memorable. Domenico Randazzo (guitar), Ricky Webber (keyboard), T.J. Coon (bass) and Tyler Volk (drums) together are competing for top amateur honors at Harlem’s famed Apollo Theater, and it’s easy to see why they have a good shot at winning.

THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT: 1st Ave, shown here at Festival Earth 2011, return for Earth Day Experience 2012. From left: Sabrina Goot, Max Goot, Kathryn Rejaei, Julia Draper and Mae Hoad, at Festival Earth 2011 in the Morristown EcoCenter. Photo by Kevin Coughlin
3:15 pm: 1st Ave showed lots of promise last year on Earth Day at the EcoCenter. We can’t wait to hear this group again, after another year with ace tutor Vic Ruiz. 1st Ave is Julia Draper, Dorothea Miller, Kathryn Rejaei, and Ryan Rejaei.
3:45 pm: No wonder Brian Cunningham is so good. He works for God! The new music director of Morristown’s Bethel A.M.E. Church coaxes some heavenly sounds from his saxophone. Brian has toured in bands backing the comedian Sinbad and the singer Ginuwine. But he’s all ours this Sunday. Hallelujah!

4:30 pm: They’re too young to be jaded by life on the road. But Amor is one of those rare teen bands that has experienced it. Twins Jaylon and Jevon Jorge, Ryan Skoletsky and Arminda Flores played seven states, from Connecticut to Florida, during last summer’s “No Bully Tour” sponsored by the F.Y.E. entertainment chain. We’re betting they will conquer the remaining 43 states before they hang up their microphones.

5:15 pm: We wanted Captain Lung to close the show to celebrate the trio’s recent prizewinning performance at Morristown’s Got Talent! Morristown High School students Travis Fielding (drums), Johannes Burger (vocals, keyboard) and Andy McNally (guitar) have been jamming together since elementary school. Clearly, they push each other to surpass themselves on stage…maybe like Cream? (Google them, kids.) They already have played the famed Stone Pony. Now, the roof of Morristown. Who knows what heights they will scale next.

Fans can scream their lungs out for Captain Lung this Sunday, April 22, high above Morristown on the roof of the DeHart Street parking garage.
The Lung is closing the MorristownGreen.com Music & Arts Showcase, part of Earth Day Experience 2012. Lots of great local acts will join the Morristown High School trio from noon to 6 pm. And it’s free!
We’re working with our friends at Sustainable Morristown and WDHA Radio on this, the second rooftop concert by MG. There will be plenty of additional family fun, including a town-wide garage sale, a sustainable living expo, an electric-hybrid car show, a healthy food festival and tours of the amazingly eco-friendly home of the Morristown Parking Authority, 14 Maple Ave.
And don’t fret about the weather. If any raindrops come our way, we’ll just move the music down one level in the garage.
To get you in the mood, here is video of Captain Lung– Johannes Burger on vocals, Andy McNally on guitar and Travis Fielding on drums–giving a prize-winning performance at Morristown’s Got Talent!

Joey Gatto is one talented guy. The Morristown High School junior makes cool videos, like…

Joey also is an engaging performer who takes beat-boxing very seriously–as you can see (above) from his performance last month at Morristown’s Got Talent! We can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.

Playing a heart-throb football star in the 1920s romp Good News, Danny Dones sings a lovely duet with his Morristown High School co-star Gloria Bangiola.
Danny also is impressive as a solo act, as he proved at the last two editions of Morristown’s Got Talent! The soulful performance above is from last month’s show.

Video: Another side of Dane Glynn, star of Morristown High’s ‘Good News’
This weekend, 16-year-old Dane Michael Glynn sings light comedy in the Morristown High School production of Good News. (Shows at 7 pm on March 26 and 3 pm on March 27.)
But Dane also has a serious side, as he displayed last month at the 2011 Morristown’s Got Talent! show, performing Caro Mio Ben (clip above).
Dane is a triple threat: He showed off his pop chops at Scotti’s Record Shop last year, singing cuts from his debut CD, Sir Dream A-Lot.
Take your pick. It all sounds good to us!

Video: Gloria Bangiola, star of Morristown High musical, knows how to sing
Gloria Bangiola co-stars in this weekend’s production of Good News, the 1920s Broadway musical at Morristown High School.
MHS theater fans are well acquainted with Gloria’s musical gifts–the senior is a veteran of numerous school productions, in addition to singing at the school coffeehouse and in the Harmonium Choral Society.
But if you never have had the pleasure of hearing Gloria sing, check out the above clip from last month’s Morristown’s Got Talent! show.
Then catch her in person, in Good News. Show times are 7 pm on March 25 and 26, and 3 pm on March 28.

Jenny Shih mastered a complex piece by Chopin and won third prize last month at Morristown’s Got Talent!
But you don’t have to be a monster pianist to succeed on stage, according to the Morristown High School senior…

Video: Robert Matarazzo, a winner of Morristown talent show, shares formula for success
Robert Matarazzo’s performance last month at Morristown’s Got Talent! looked so smooth and natural that anyone could do it.
Yet it actually was distilled from 20 years of performances, with a carefully crafted introduction that left nothing to chance, Robert reveals in this video interview.

Morristown talent show organizers hint about next year
Morristown’s Got Talent!, which was a hit last week, will celebrate its fifth anniversary next year. What new features might be in the works?
In this video, Vince Morreale and Fran Rossoff, co-chairs of the charity event, give a hint. We don’t want to give anything away but… let’s just say it wouldn’t be a bad idea for prior contestants to start practicing.
