From the Junior League of Morristown:

Fun-filled day of physical activities for children, youths, and their families to help encourage young people to exercise and make healthy life choices

The Junior League of Morristown is proud to host its third annual “Run It!” event for children of all ages on April 2, 2017, to be held at The Y Zone in Cedar Knolls.

This day of fun-filled active play and educational activities is designed to encourage a healthy lifestyle and demonstrate that physical activity can be fun. It’s also a great way for families to spend time together while engaged in a healthy event that also supports our community.

junior league logoThis year, the Junior League of Morristown has taken on a new issue impact area focused on the health and under-served need of teens in our area.

After taking a careful look at the needs of our community, we learned that there still remain limited resources for teens in need, so we’ve made a commitment to explore how we can help fill this gap. Proceeds from the event will help JLM fund various initiatives to support programming and the community.

“By sponsoring events like “Run It!” we hope to be able to foster healthy lifestyles at all ages of childhood that will transcend the teen years into adulthood,” said Heather Bochner, JLM President 2016-2017.

“We have learned that according to the Centers for Disease Control, less than three in 10 high school students get least 60 minutes of physical activity every day, putting these youths at a greater risk for numerous serious health conditions.”

Run It!” will be held rain or shine on April 2 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with many indoor events.

Activities include: a one mile fun run for kids ages 7 to 15; ‘Run It Sprints’ for children ages 3 to 6; a ‘Toddler Trek’ for children ages 1 to 2; a ‘Diaper Dash’ for crawlers; and the ‘Run It Village of Fun,’ which includes health-focused and/or fun activities such as warm-ups by Barre 3 and Crossfit.

There also is yoga by Happy Hearts Peaceful Kids, a healthy cooking demonstration by the Junior League’s own Children Making Healthy Choices initiative, face-painting, a spirit station to decorate shirts and race bibs, and a giveaway with great prizes.

“Run It!” will also feature fantastic community vendors, including Eye Level of Morris Plains, Girls on the Run, and the Schiff Nature Preserve, among others.

The JLM is thankful to partner with Health Monitor as our Title Sponsor to bring this event to our community and for continued support of its mission to promote healthy and active lifestyles for children.

And the JLM is appreciative of support from Summit Medical Group, Cradles to Crayons, Baird Financial, and Amy Wollock.
