Morris Township police arrested a 34-year-old Stanhope man on Sunday and charged him with a burglary that day on Woodlawn Drive, and another earlier this year on Burnham Road.

Here’s more, from Capt. Mark DiCarlo:

On Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, Morris Township Police responded to the report of suspicious activity at a residence located on Woodlawn Drive. A concerned citizen observed an unknown male walking around a neighboring house after he heard what sounded as “glass breaking.”

Morris Township police logoPtl. Jason Lawlor observed the individual operating a vehicle which was described by the caller via 911 and initiated a motor vehicle stop. Other officers responded to the residence and located a forced entry which was indicative of a burglary.

The investigation of the incident led to the arrest of Jason Major, 34-year-old white male from Stanhope, NJ.

An interview conducted by Det. Chris Tongring led to the confession of this burglary as well as another unsolved burglary earlier this year on Burnham Road.

Mr. Major was charged with two counts of Burglary, Theft, Criminal Possession of Burglar tools, Criminal Mischief and Possession of a Hypodermic Needle.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity at the time it is observed. Residents are also encouraged to take preventative measures to protect their homes from potential burglars.

Some preventative tips include making your residence appear occupied, leaving lights on at night only, park a vehicle in your driveway and remove packages and mail from outside your home.
