That seismic rumbling shaking your floorboards? It’s more than 5,000 kids jumping for joy.
Before the first snowflake had fallen, the Morris School District on Wednesday canceled classes for Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, along with all after-school activities and the Sunrise/ Sunset program.
All state offices will be closed, too. Blue Diamond won’t pick up Morristown trash on Thursday; pickups on the north and south sides of town are scheduled for Friday into Saturday, if necessary, according to the town public works department.
A winter storm warning remains in effect through 4 pm on Thursday; the National Weather Service says 6- to 10 inches of snow are likely, starting around midnight.
Winds may gust to 35 mph, and “heavy snow will make many roads impassable. The combination of heavy snow and gusty winds may produce some power outages due to the weight of the snow on tree limbs and power lines,” the weather service predicts.
Jeff Paul of the Morris County Office of Emergency Management said the heaviest snow should fall from 6 am through 11 am, with accumulations of 10-13 inches.
“Major impacts are likely,” Paul said.
The Morristown Parking Authority is offering residents free garage parking through 8 am on Friday, Feb. 10, 2017.
