Bomb-sniffing dogs were called to the Thomas Jefferson Elementary School on Friday afternoon to investigate after a written bomb threat was found on a hallway wall.

Students remained in their classrooms, per police instructions, and the threat proved unfounded, according to Morris School District Superintendent Mackey Pendergrast and Principal Cristina Frazzano.

Here is the message they sent to parents.

From the Morris School District:

Jan. 13, 2017

Dear Thomas Jefferson Community,

At approximately 1:15 a written note was discovered on a hallway wall which stated a bomb was in the school counselor’s office.

Police were immediately alerted and they arrived to investigate. Per procedure and police direction, students remained in their classrooms while the investigation was ongoing.

A K-9 unit was brought into Thomas Jefferson Elementary School and it has been thoroughly searched and declared safe by the police.

Please be aware our security cameras – which provide clear images of all of our hallways – give us high confidence that the building is completely safe. Classroom instruction never stopped and normal dismissal procedures and times will be followed. All students and staff are safe.

Thank you,

Cristina Frazzano, Principal

Mackey Pendergrast, Superintendent of Schools
