Lots of people are catching their breath after the whirlwind holidays. But you still can find a few entertainment options around Greater Morristown this weekend.

THURSDAY, JAN. 5, 2017:

Can’t get enough of the holidays?  Take a nostalgic look at how Christmas was celebrated through the centuries, with the Morris County Historical Society at Acorn Hall in Morristown.  Open from 1 pm to 4 pm.  Admission: $6/adults, $5/seniors, $3/students, & free for under age 12 & historical society members. FRIDAY, JAN. 6:

Street Smart Morristown and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office present an overview of the national heroin- and opiate epidemic, from 10 am to 1 pm at the Morristown & Township Library. Admission: Free. One Miller Road, Morristown.

The 18-piece big band Reeds, Rhythm, And All That Brass comes to The Minstrel in Morris Township at 7:30 pm (new start time!) , with guitarist Bill Brandon as opener. Admission: $10 (new this year). At the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship, 21 Normandy Heights Road.

Manhattan Comedy Night returns to Morristown’s Mayo Performing Arts Center at 8 pm. Featuring Buddy Fitzpatrick, Gary Vider, Dan Naiman, Johnny Lampert and Greer Barnes. Mature themes, language. Adults only. Admission: $25-$30. At 100 South St. Call 973-539-8008.

SATURDAY, JAN. 7:

Give an orphaned book a new home: The Morristown & Township Library is selling used books from 10 am to 2 pm, at One Miller Road, Morristown.

swingin' tern logoThe Folk Project’s Swinging Tern  dance series celebrates its 33rd year with a workshop at 7:30 pm and dance at 8 pm. Music by Gotham Girls, at the First Presbyterian Church Parish House, 14 Hanover Road, East Hanover. No partner necessary. Admission: $10 per adult, $5 per student with Student ID. Bring clean, soft-soled shoes for dancing.

 

 


SUNDAY, JAN. 8:

The Morris County Winter Farmers Market runs from at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Morristown’s Alexander Hamilton School, where it will be every Sunday through April 9, 2017. It’s a joint effort of the Foodshed Alliance Farmers’ Access Network, Grow it Green Morristown and the school, at 24 Mills St.
