The 7th Regiment Infantry, NJ Volunteers, returned to Historic Speedwell last weekend for another Civil War Christmas.
Visitors were treated to a re-creation of a typical winter encampment and an Officers’ Ball as part of the holiday festivities.
During the Civil War it was important, as it is now, to give the soldiers a taste of normalcy and something to celebrate for the holidays.
This year’s encampment also featured crafts for the kids, as well as cookies and hot chocolate.
Everyone enjoyed dancing the 9 Pin and the Crooked Stovepipe at the Officers’ Ball, as well as talking with the re-enactors about camp life and the importance of keeping our history alive. A roaring good time was had by all. Huzzah!
