The herbivores are coming to town and everyone is invited– even carnivores.

It’s the first New Jersey VegFest, at the Hyatt Regency Morristown on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Advocates for healthy diets, sustainability and humane treatment of animals will gather to share passions that stem from their broad beliefs in veganism.

“Everybody has their own reasons to go vegan, which makes it very cool and very dynamic,” said co-organizer Marisa Sweeney. “Some are into the humane animal aspect, some the healthy vegan lifestyle and others the sustainability. Being vegan has a really positive impact on the environment.”

More than 1,000 tickets have been sold.  Attendees will find 35 vendors handing out free samples and selling everything from baked goods to vegan-themed clothing.

Seven speakers include Liz Dee, co-owner and executive vice president of Smarties Candy Company and CEO of Baleine & Bjorn Capital LLC.  She will discuss the trend of smart, sustainable and humane business models.

Dr. Joel Fuhrman will talk about preventing and reversing diseases through nutrition and natural methods. He has appeared on Dr. Oz and the Today show, and his book Eat to Live is a best-seller.

A $25 ticket includes admission to Eating You Alive, a new documentary that will be screened at Morristown High School at 6:30 pm.

And don’t feel sheepish if you still crave lamb chops once in awhile.

“It’s really meant to be an all-inclusive event for everybody,” Sweeney said of VegFest. “It’s not going to have shaming if you’re not a vegan.”
