Have a Doggone Good Time at The 4th Annual Seeing Eye Doggy Dash

Family- and dog-friendly event has moved to Lidgerwood Park to accommodate growing size

In recognition of Blindness Awareness Month, The Seeing Eye is inviting the public to join the world’s oldest guide dog school on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, for the Doggy Dash and pageant, a fun, family-friendly event where well-behaved dogs are invited to participate.

To accommodate this growing event, The Seeing Eye has moved the fundraising walk and pageant to Lidgerwood Park in Morristown, N.J. The doggy pageant, which includes the popular dog costume contest, is presented by TD Bank.

Prizes will be awarded for various costume categories, best trick, most obedient, and more. The Seeing Eye will offer face painting, a caricature artist for dogs, and airbrush tattoos. F

ood trucks selling lunch and ice cream also will be in attendance. Seeing Eye staff and volunteers will provide a Seeing Eye puppy training demonstration, and there will be raffles baskets and a 50/50 cash drawing.

“The staff and volunteers at The Seeing Eye always look forward to organizing this event for the dog-loving community in Morristown and surrounding areas,” Seeing Eye President & CEO Jim Kutsch said.

“Whether you plan to bring your dog, your family, or just yourself, we know everyone will have a good time at our fun and educational event to support a good cause.”

The walk is open to adults and children. Adult registration is $30 online (pre-registration ends September 26), and $35 at the event.

Free goodie bags will be given out to the first 300 adult registrants. Children ages 5 to 12 may register for a discounted fee of $20 online and $25 at the event, and children under 5 may walk for free.

Dogs may walk for free but must be over 6 months of age to participate in the walk. Dogs over 4 months of age may participate in the pageant and other activities. The pageant entry fee is $5 per dog, per category.

Owners should bring proof of rabies vaccination to the event. All proceeds will benefit The Seeing Eye’s mission to breed, raise, and train dogs to guide people who are blind and visually impaired.

All walkers are encouraged to fundraise on behalf of the organization. Fundraising rewards for the walk start at just $100 with a free walk T-shirt and dog bandana. Those who fundraise at higher levels can get their registration refunded, a gift bag filled with prizes, a behind the scenes tour of the main Seeing Eye campus, and more!

Registration for the walk starts at 11 a.m., the walk begins at noon, and the pageant judging will take place at 1 p.m. All activities will be at Lidgerwood Park at the intersection of Lidgerwood Parkway and James Street in Morristown.
