THURSDAY, AUG. 25, 2016
What’s a party without cake? The National Park Service will celebrate its 100th anniversary with free cake, courtesy of Blue Morel Restaurant Executive Chef Bobby Varua, at 2 pm. The party is at the Washington’s Headquarters Museum, at 30 Washington Place, Morristown. All are invited. After the cake-cutting, Park Service Chief of Interpretation Vanessa Smiley will present a short program in the museum auditorium on the history of the National Park Service.
Meet Me in Morristown is back for its final monthly “last Thursday” sidewalk fair of the summer. Look for sidewalk displays by downtown businesses starting at 11 am, and arts, crafts and free performances along South Street and on the Green between 5 pm and 9 pm. Rain date: Friday.
The Woman’s Club of Morristown kicks off its annual weekend Rummage Sale fundraiser with a preview party from 6 pm to 8 pm. Get first crack at bargains of all sizes. Admission: $10. Light refreshments will be served. (There is no admission charge for the rest of the weekend.) All proceeds support the Club, its charitable programs, and maintenance of the historic 1797 Condict house. At 51 South St., Morristown.
The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey presents Eugene Ionesco’s Exit the King at 8 pm, and throughout the weekend. Tickets: $25-$75. At Drew University, 36 Madison Ave., Madison.
FRIDAY, AUG. 26:
The Woman’s Club of Morristown continues its annual weekend Rummage Sale fundraiser from 9 am to 4 pm, at 51 South St. See Thursday entry for more details.
Bike & Walk Morristown‘s Bike to School Bike Party follows the monthly Last Friday bike ride, which starts at 6:30 pm from Whole Foods on Washington Street. The easy, social ride for cyclists of all abilities will tour Morristown before heading to Burnham Park’s playground for a campfire and ice cream to celebrate the end of summer. Musicians are welcome to bring instruments to play by the campfire.
This is the weekend that all ukulele fans live for: The fourth annual New Jersey Uke Fest! At 8 pm, the duo Victor & Penny and Beatles aficionado Jim Boggia take the stage at the Ukrainian American Cultural Center of New Jersey, at 60C North Jefferson Road, Whippany. SATURDAY, AUG. 27:
The fourth annual New Jersey Uke Fest resumes at 9 am with a full day of workshops for beginners to experts, offered by some of the world’s greatest players. At 7:30 pm, a concert features the world-famous James Hill, Manitoba Hal and Cousin Earth. Tickets: $20 for the concert only, $60 for workshops only, $75 for both. Atlantic Sports Health hosts a two-day Premier Endurance Summit, geared towards runners and coaches, featuring Olympian and coach Jack Daniels, author of The World’s Best Running Coach” and Joe Vigil, 2016 Rio Olympic Games Running Coach. The Morris Plains Farmers Market is back, on Saturdays from June 11 to Oct. 8, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Speedwell Avenue Merchant Block across from the train station.
