Portions of Western Avenue remained closed on Sunday morning as utility crews continued working to restore power. Morris Township police estimated the roadway will be reopened by 6 pm.

Authorities cautioned residents to avoid all downed wires, and to use extra caution when wires are tangled in trees.

Jersey Central Power & Light reported that 410 Morristown customers remained without electricity.

Another 379 were out in Morris Township. Only one customer was out in Morris Plains, which initially may have taken the hardest hit during Saturday afternoon’s storm. More than 80 percent of the borough lost power at first, according to JCP&L.

“Crews made significant progress overnight restoring customers affected by yesterday’s storm,” said Christy Hajoway of JCP&L.

She could not predict when everyone would be back online, however.  She urged anyone without electricity to call 888-544-4877.

Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty said there is a partial opening on one block of Western Avenue in Morristown; police will direct motorists around the damage.

In the Township, Western is closed at Searing Avenue, Township police reported.
