Morristown on Thursday pulled the plug on free week-long admission to the Burnham Park Pool.

“It’s clearly not as heated as it was last week and I think it will take 24 hours notice to get the message out that we are going back to normal operations,” said Mayor Tim Dougherty, who announced the free program last week as a way for residents to beat the heat wave.

The program was to have extended through Friday, July 29, 2016.

The National Weather Service predicts temperatures will top 90 degrees again on Thursday, extending the heat wave.

Thunderstorms overnight are expected finally to bring the mercury down to the 80s on Friday.

On Wednesday, town Administrator Jillian Barrick said the free admission program had proven popular during the evenings.

Pool use once again will be limited to paying members.
