They don’t make trees like they used to.

Morristown was raining trees on Thursday, when a brief but ferocious storm blasted through around 3:30 pm.

As of late afternoon, police said no injuries had been reported.  That’s lucky– three cars sustained major damage in the parking lot of the Presbyterian Parish House on South Street.  Limbs crashed onto park benches on the Morristown Green, and large dining umbrellas were uprooted outside the South + Pine restaurant.

Police urged motorists to stay off the roads– which are blocked everywhere. The Verizon Corporate Classic 5K in Morristown has been postponed.

Jersey Central Power & Light reports scattered power outages. UPDATE: About ONE-THIRD of JCP&L customers–nearly 3,400 customers–are without electricity as of early evening.

Mayor Tim Dougherty advises the public to beware of downed power lines.
