THURSDAY, JUNE 23, 2016

The Coloring Book Club meets at 7 pm in the Morristown & Township Library–and it’s not just for kids. Coloring sheets and pencils, music and refreshmants are provided by the library; you furnish the fun and relaxation. At One Miller Road, Morristown.

General Grant and the Rewriting of HistoryThe North Jersey Civil War Round Table presents Prof. Frank P. Varney of North Dakota, and a controversial program exploring General Grant’s distortion of his military records. At 7:14 pm, in the Haggerty Center of the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, 353 E. Hanover Ave., Morris Township (opposite the Morris County Library. Admission: $5; students, free.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey  presents The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare (abridged)(revised) at 8 pm on the Outdoor Stage of The College of Saint Elizabeth, 2 Convent Road, Morris Township. Tickets: $25-$35. Call 973-408-5600.  Shows run through July 31, 2016.

church yard saleThe Presbyterian Church in Morristown hosts its annual Yard Sale, from 8:30 am to 3 pm on the lawn of the Parish House, at 65 South St. Housewares, antiques, books, toys, games, holiday items and more — at bargain prices. Proceeds benefit the Community Soup Kitchen, the Market Street Mission and the Interfaith Food pantry, and clean water for Kenyan villagers and support for schools and clinics around the world.  Admission: Free. The Morris Plains Farmers Market is back, on Saturdays from June 11 to Oct. 8, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Speedwell Avenue Merchant Block across from the train station.

The North Jersey Sewing Circle presents The Design Process From a Fashion Insider from 10 am to 1 pm at the Morristown & Township Library. Free. At One Miller Road.

The Friends of Fosterfields are throwing an ice cream social for members, from 1 pm to 3 pm, at 73 Kahdena Road, Morris Township. Call 973-868-8405 for details.

Does the renovated Streeter Pool measure up to Ginty Pool? Find out between 1 pm and 8 pm. Morris Township is throwing a Grand (Re)Opening Party at Streeter, which was modernized over the winter, just as Ginty was during the prior year. Admission is free for pool members, and $5 for everyone else. Food, games, giveaways, a DJ… and live music by The Bottle Openers, featuring MayorDan Caffrey on guitar.

For nearly 30 years, June Van Thoen has been orchestrating beautiful sounds as music director at the Morristown United Methodist Church.  At 5 pm, choristers from near and far will gather at the church to sing her praises in a free concert as she nears retirement. SUNDAY, JUNE 26:

The Morristown Farmers Market is back for its 26th season, every Sunday through Nov. 20 from 8:30 am to 2 pm, in parking lot 10 between Morris and Spring streets.

The Rev. Gene Robinson, considered by many to be the first openly gay bishop, will preach at 9:30 am at Morristown’s Episcopal Church of the Redeemer. See Saturday entry for more details.

The Woman’s Club of Morristown hosts an indoor flea market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its 51 South St. headquarters. Items include antique furniture, flat TV, children’s DVDs and more. Proceeds benefit the club and its charities.

It’s a concert. It’s a picnic. It’s the 33rd annual Giralda Music and Arts Festival.  The New Jersey Symphony will perform classics and show tunes, and there will be art displays, children’s activities, a best-picnic-theme contest,  a 50-50 raffle, and more, to benefit Morris Arts.  Gates open at 4 pm, concert at 6 pm, at Giralda Farms, at Dodge Drive and Madison Avenue in Madison.
