‘Perfect Storm’ author Sebastian Junger to keynote Morristown book fest, Sept. 30

Sebastian Junger, author of A Perfect Storm, will deliver the keynote at the third annual Morristown Festival of Books, on Sept. 30, 2016.

morristown festival of books 2016 logoTickets to his speech at the Mayo Performing Arts Center are $35 and include a copy of his latest book, Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging.  Admission for students is $15, without the book.

Assorted authors will give talks at several Morristown venues on Saturday, Oct. 1.  Those events are free to the public.

MORRISTOWN FESTIVAL OF BOOKS ANNOUNCES SEBASTIAN JUNGER, AUTHOR OF THE PERFECT STORM, AS ITS KEYNOTE SPEAKER IN 2016

June 2, 2016—Morristown, NJ—At 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2016, Morristown Festival of Books will mark its third year with a Keynote address by Sebastian Junger, the New York Times best-selling author of The Perfect Storm, War, and A Death in Belmont at Morristown’s Mayo Performing Arts Center.

Junger, an award-winning veteran reporter who has written extensively of his experience embedded with American troops in Afghanistan, will discuss his latest book Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging.

tribe junger bookjacketCombining history, psychology and anthropology, TRIBE explores what we can learn from tribal societies about loyalty, belonging and the eternal human quest for meaning.

TRIBE presents a persuasive argument that this “tribal” connection has been lost in modern society, and regaining it may be the key to our psychological survival.

Junger’s critically acclaimed book raises and attempts to answer many questions, including whether the alarming rise of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) among repatriated American troops stems from their sense of alienation from the very homeland they were fighting to protect.

Junger’s book is ultimately is a call to action that reminding civilians and soldiers alike that our greatest source of healing may be found in “our shared humanity.”

TRIBE continues to receive widespread critical acclaim following its release in May 2016. The New York Times Book Review calls it “absorbing and original” while NPR.org declares “Junger is a Master.”

The all-day free main Festival takes place on Saturday, Oct. 1. More than 35 award-winning and best-selling authors will speak and answer questions in one-hour sessions at five locales, all within walking distance of each other along South Street.
