From the Morristown High School Broadcasting Department:
On Friday June 10, 2016, Morristown High School hosts its fourth annual film festival from 7-10 pm in the school’s media center. The event is the culmination of Morristown High’s annual Art and Design Show, a weeklong exhibition of student artwork, photography, and music.
This year’s entries will be judged by Michael Hill, a correspondent for NJTV News; Paul Rabinowitz, a parent of MHS alums as well as the Founder and Director of Arts by the People; and Zaji Zabalerio, a film student at Emerson College and member of the MHS Class of 2013 who has produced considerable work both in high school and in college.
Under the leadership of Morristown High School Broadcasting teacher Michael Butler, students produced films exploring and interpreting this year’s theme: Dreams.
From documentaries about chefs to short films about tightrope walking, each of the 30 entries brings a unique spin on the concept.
This fourth year of the film festival will mark a change in student leadership. At the conclusion of the event, both three-time Student Chair Kirsten Traudt and longtime committee member Abigail Semple will be stepping down, leaving the continued growth of the event to a new generation of underclassmen leaders.
Traudt and the Film Festival Committee worked to organize entries, raise awareness, secure judges, and create decorations for the event.
In addition to showcasing student work, the film festival hopes to engage the wider Morristown community.
Prizes, furnished by an anonymous donor, include GoPro and DSLR cameras, camera bags, and other filmmaking gear.
Proceeds from the concession stand will go to supporting the school’s Broadcasting program, which also runs the school’s television program, “Colonial Corner,” and its radio station, WJSV 90.5 FM.
Mr. Butler hopes to involve other New Jersey high schools in the event next year.
