THURSDAY, MAY 5, 2016:

The Education Foundation of Morris Plains presents its Strides for Education 5K / Walk,  registration at 5:30 pm, Youth Fun Run 6 pm, 5K/ Walk 6:30 pm, at Central Park of Morris Plains. Fees: $15-$30. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit foundation.

The Morristown & Township Library kicks off its Power of the Press film series at 6:45 pm with The Paper (1994, R-rated). Free. At One Miller Road, Morristown.


FRIDAY, MAY 6:

The Morristown & Township Library will be closed for staff training day.

Families are invited to celebrate National Public Gardens Day in the garden of Morristown’s Macculloch Hall, from 2 pm to 5 pm. Children’s activities and presentations are planned. Admission: Free, but pre-registration required: Call (973)538-2404, ext. 16,  or email here.

The Lauren & Emily Failla Foundation presents Broadway at the Bickford at 7 pm, a benefit featuring Broadway stars at the Bickford Theatre in Morris Township. Tickets: $75, price includes hors d’oeuvres, wine, dessert and entry to a silent auction. At 6 Normandy Heights Road. Read more here.

It’s a Summer Songs Beach Party, 8 pm at The Minstrel in Morris Township. Bring an instrument, break out your bikini. Admission: $12. At the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship, 21 Normandy Heights Road.

Plant sale 2016The Center for Spiritual Living Morristown hosts its Second Annual Rummage Sale, from 8 am to 2 pm at 331 Mount Kemble Ave. in Harding. Free parking and refreshments. Call 973-539-3114.

The Garden Club of Morristown presents its annual Plant Sale, from 8:30 am to 3 pm at the New Vernon Fire House, 22 Village Road.

Shred confidential documents from 9 am to noon, $4 per 10-pound bag, behind Morristown Town Hall. Proceeds benefit Morristown Kiwanis High School Scholarship Fund. Arrive early; when shredder truck is full, that’s it. Off Franklin Street.

Celebrate Mother’s Day  with a tea reception at Acorn Hall for the Morris County Historical Society’s new exhibit Fine, Fancy, and Fashionable: 125 Years Dressing the Bride, from 1 pm to 4 pm. Volunteers will help the Jewish Relief Agency  pack kosher foods for those in need, 9:30 pm at Morristown’s Temple B’nai Or, 60 Overlook Road.
