Morris Township aims to open its refurbished Streeter Pool on June 4, 2016, along with Ginty Pool, which was upgraded last year.

Ginty’s reopening was delayed last summer, after a harsh winter hindered construction. The recreation department is more optimistic for Streeter’s timeline, thanks to a milder winter.

“We are thrilled to share with Township residents and all pool members that Streeter Pool is in the final stages of preparation for a great summer season of family fun! And just as the reconstructed Ginty Pool did last year, the new Streeter Pool will exceed everyone’s expectations!” Mayor Dan Caffrey said in a statement on Wednesday.

Water slides, water heaters and WiFi are among the improvements at Streeter, where a celebration is scheduled for June 25.

Township officials also are inviting nonresidents to become pool members. Membership fees for nonresidents range from $110 to $530 for the season.  The fees range from $110 to $380 for residents.

Morris Township Looks Forward to Completion of Streeter Pool, Capping Off Its Two-Year Reconstruction Program for Both Township Pools

Morris Township, NJ – Dan Caffrey, Mayor of Morris Township, is pleased to announce that the reconstruction of the Township’s Streeter Pool is progressing on schedule.

The 2016 swim season will begin Saturday, June 4, 2016m with a special Grand Opening Celebration for Streeter Pool scheduled for Saturday, June 25.

“We are thrilled to share with Township residents and all pool members that Streeter Pool is in the final stages of preparation for a great summer season of family fun! And just as the reconstructed Ginty Pool did last year, the new Streeter Pool will exceed everyone’s expectations!”

Reconstruction of both Township Pools began in 2013 with a comprehensive study of the functional updating and engineering work needed to renew them. New features were added to bring the pools up to current standards for safety, access and appeal.

Public workshops were held at each pool, and a 2013 survey was conducted with over 400 members providing input on improvements. Many of those recommendations were incorporated into the final pool designs.

William Foelsch, Director of the Morris Township Parks and Recreation Department, said “Pool members were very candid and specific about what they wanted to see at their Township pools. The biggest challenge was to fix the water leakage problems at both pools, which caused cold temperatures and the consumption of large quantities of water. These problems have been solved. And we’ve gone well beyond that to include many new features that members will love.”

New Streeter Pool features include:

  • New Splash Play areas at the Wading Pools for ages 7 and younger
  • Water heaters to keep pool temperatures comfortable
  • A new Vortex moving water area for floating fun
  • One-meter and three-meter diving boards
  • An exciting new 600 gallon-per-minute water slide
  • Upgrades to the changing areas / rest rooms
  • Wi-fi access
  • More shade structures
  • “Zero-depth” entry as well as new ramps and stair entries
  • New propane barbeques for member use – bring your lunch / dinner!
  • New in-pool and deck area lighting for pool use at night
  • Expanded child and adult evening events

Township Committeewoman Louise Johnson, who serves as Chair of the Parks & Recreation Committee, said, “All these improvements were accomplished with a very minimal increase in membership fees.

“A family season membership for Township residents is still priced well below $400 – which is less expensive than public or private pools in nearby towns. Our pools are the perfect place for our community to gather, so make some plans this summer with family and friends!”

Swimmers who are not residents of Morris Township are invited to become members. “Morris Township is pleased to offer attractive memberships rates to non-residents to enjoy our two state-of-the-art facilities. We welcome families who live beyond our Township boundaries,” said Mr. Foelsch.

Pool membership registration is underway at the Parks and Recreation office at Township Hall located at 50 Woodland Ave. in Morris Township (973- 326-7371). Or visit their web site at https://www.morristwp.com/462/Swim-Pool-Membership to initiate registration on-line.

“For over 40 years, the Pools of Morris Township have been an important part of our quality of life,” said Mayor Caffrey.

“We have renewed our commitment to our residents and all of our pool members to provide an enjoyable, family-oriented summer experience. We invite everyone to come and enjoy these beautiful new pool facilities…they are Your Nearby Oasis!”
