The Gift of Failure with Jessica Lahey:
How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed

The Morris Educational Foundation (MEF) will host the second part of its Parent Education Series on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at 7 pm at Morristown High School, 50 Early St., Morristown, NJ.

Jessica Lahey, New York Times columnist, educator and best-selling author, will outline a plan for how parents and teachers can encourage autonomy, while still offering support, to help children grow into independent, resilient and confident adults.

Jessica Lahey will also moderate a Q&A discussion between the parent community and guest panelists: Mr. Joseph Uglialoro, Principal, Frelinghuysen Middle School, Morris School District, Dr. Walter Rosenfeld, Chair of Pediatrics, Goryeb Children’s Hospital, Morristown Medical Center and Kristen Rudiger, School Psychologist, Morris School District.

Morris School District parents are also invited to attend “Coffee with the Author” earlier in the day from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Frelinghuysen Middle School Media Center.

In the afternoon, Mr. Uglialoro will be hosting a roundtable discussion between Ms. Lahey and school administrators to identify ways to bridge the partnership between home and school in helping students to be successful in middle school and beyond.

As Ms. Lahey states in her book, “Parents have the power to grant this freedom to fail. Teachers have the ability to transform that failure into an education. And together? Together, we have the potential to nurture a generation of confident, competent adults.”

This event is sponsored by the Morris Educational Foundation through the Morristown Rotary Fund for Parent Education and the Morris Township/Morristown Joint Municipal Alliance and is supported by the Atlantic Health System’s Morristown Medical Center.

“We are pleased to continue our Parent Education Series by bringing another world-renowned expert in the parenting field to the greater Morristown community,” said Kim Pistner, Chairperson of the MEF.

This event is free and open to the public. A RSVP, with opportunity to submit a question for Ms. Lahey, is requested but not required at https://bit.ly/MEFLahey. Ms. Lahey will also be signing her book, The Gift of Failure, which will be available at a discounted price of $15, cash only.
