THURSDAY, APRIL 7, 2016:
The Book Lovers Circle invites the public to its monthly meeting at the Morristown & Township Library, at 7 pm. At One Miller Road in Morristown.

FRIDAY, APRIL 8:
Students from the Frelinghuysen Middle School will present Living Voices, multimedia presentations based on oral histories they have collected, from 10 am to 1 pm at the Headquarters Museum auditorium, Morristown National Historical Park, 30 Washington Place, Morristown. The event is co-sponsored by the Morris County Historical Society and the New Jersey Consortium for Gifted and Talented Programs Inc. Admission: Free.
At 8 pm, The Minstrel Open Stage offers an opportunity for acoustic musicians to perform a 15-minute set, and for the audience to enjoy a diverse collection of acoustic musicians. The Morris Museum’s Bickford Theatre in Morris Township presents My Mother, My Sister & Me at 8 pm. Because of a wintry forecast, the fishing contest has been rescheduled for April 16, 2016. The fish apologize for the inconvenience.
The fish in Burnham Park Pond have been waiting for you all winter. See if they’re biting at Morristown’s Annual Fishing Contest, from 8 am to 11 a.m. You supply the rod and reel, and the town Recreation Department will provide bait and refreshments. Prizes will be awarded in age groups 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-14 for First Catch, Longest Fish, and Heaviest Fish.
Looking for some bargains? The annual Rummage Sale of the Morristown United Methodist Church is a good place to start. It runs from 9 am to 2 pm, and features housewares, toys, electronics, furniture and much more. Proceeds benefit the church’s summer mission trip to Appalachia. At 50 South Park Place.
It’s Nanoday at the Morris Museum in Morris Township. From 11 am to 1 pm, students from Morristown High School will explain the wonders of nanoscience to kids ages 3 to 13. SteamPunk — that time-traveling blend of history and sci-fi– returns to Historic Speedwell in Morristown from 2 pm to 4 pm with a primer, appropriately titled: Steampunk 101: What the Heck Is It? Welcome Team 26 as it arrives at 5 pm at Morristown Town Hall, on its fourth annual bike ride from Newtown, CT, to Washington DC to press for gun law reforms. A 7 pm dinner at the Hyatt Morristown will benefit Mary’s Fund, named for a school psychologist who was among 26 children and educators massacred at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012. Tickets for the dinner are $100. Proceeds support programs for children and adolescents, causes to which the late Mary Sherlach devoted her life. Read more here.
Can’t get enough SteamPunk? Visit the Vail House at Historic Speedwell in Morristown from 6 pm to 8:30 p.m. for Steep-Punk! Steampunk tea and Photo Shoot. A pro photographer will immortalize you… and then you can enjoy a three-course high tea and treats at the historic L’Hommedieu House. The tea and photo shoot are $50 per person. St. Peter’s Episcopal Church is hosting a Monte Carlo Night at 6:30 pm. Games, a silent auction, tricky tray and 50/50 are scheduled; admission includes catered appetizers, two drink tickets, four tricky tray tickets, and $50 in play money. Admission: $35 adults, $25 seniors.
If paranormal is more your speed, try ghost-hunting at the Frelinghuysen Mansion, from 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The Island Paranormal Society will lead a two-hour investigation, with a presentation of findings, a Q&A, and light refreshments. A Festival of Sound 2, a musical fundraiser for The Seeing Eye Inc., starts at 7:30 pm at the Dorothy Young Center for the Arts at Drew University in Madison. Performers will include Grover Kemble, Rio Clemente, Rob Paparozzi, Carrie Jackson and Gene Perla–with special guest special guest artist Justin Kauflin, a Seeing Eye graduate who was named 2012 Jazz Artist of the Year in 2012 by Veer Magazine.
