This weekend’s arctic blast can be just as dangerous to pets as to people.  Below are some pet safety tips from Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty’s office.

And a reminder: Morristown’s fire station at 161 Speedwell Ave. is open as a warming shelter through 8 am on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016.

A wind chill advisory is in effect until 9 am on Sunday, Feb. 14–the National Weather Service says it could feel as cold as minus-20 overnight.  Frostbite and hypothermia are real dangers.  It’s a good night to keep your Valentine close!

A wind advisory also is in place for Saturday afternoon, with gusts of 50 mph possible, according to the forecast.  Some vehicles could have difficulty in the strong winds. Beware of broken tree limbs, and secure light-weight outdoor objects like trash cans and patio furniture, the weather service advises.

Temperatures are expected to moderate on Monday, Presidents Day, with a sloppy mix of snow and sleet.  The thermometer should approach 50 degrees on Tuesday, with heavy rain.
