The National Weather Service says this weekend will be the winter’s coldest so far, with wind chills of 10- to 30 degrees below zero Saturday night into Sunday, and daytime wind chills near zero.

With that in mind, Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty’s office issued a weather alert on Thursday:

Due to the extreme cold temperatures expected to hit the Morristown area today and through this weekend, the Morristown Fire House located at 161 Speedwell Ave. will open as a warming center beginning Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016 at 8 pm through Monday, Feb. 15 at 8 am.

SPECIAL NOTE: This location is a warming center only. Please contact the Morris County Human Services Division for Shelter Assistance or call 973-993-0833 or 973-538-0431.

Please call the Speedwell Avenue Morristown Fire House at 973-292-6605 with any inquiries and visit townofmorristown.org for further updates to this notice.
